A-Rod
A-Rod is an adorable 3 year old male purebred little Minature Dachshund, He's the perfect travel size and loves being in your lap and cuddling - he's a lovebug, he's around 8 lbs. A-Rod is a very sweet boy, very playful and is always looking for a lap to lay in. He loves everyone. He walks well on a leash and is good with other dogs, cats and loves kids. He's being crate and house trained in his foster home and is doing very well.

Abby lives in a foster home with cats and other dogs and gets along great with everyone. She enjoys going for walks, trips to the dog park, and playing with squeaky toys or the other dogs in her foster home. Abby is good in the car, walks well on a leash, and is not a barker. Acacia is a 3 year old, 48 lb. Lab Mix, with the wiggliest butt on the planet. She was found under an Acacia tree, where she gave birth to her 5 puppies and kept them safe... thus her name. She was a wonderful mama to her puppies, all the while thanking her rescuers with kisses and hugs. She is housebroken, walks nicely on a leash and even enjoys car rides. Acacia is very friendly, but can be a little fussy about choosing her canine buddies. She is a friendly, happy dog, and wonderful company. She loves to lounge but is always up for a good game of fetch and does a cute happy dance when she knows it's walk time. She is perfect on the leash and rides great in the car. Adelle was born blind in one eye but that doesn't bother her a bit. She can keep up with the group in any situation. She is also working on her housebreaking and is almost there. Adelle would love to have someone home during part of the day but when she is left alone she finds a nice place to nap and wait for her people to come play with her. Adelle is not a fan of cats. However, he loves going to dog parks off campus with his friends. Admiral is adorable but will run or hide when he is anxious. He has floppy ears and a sweet disposition once he gets to know you. Admiral loves and must be homed with other dogs. He would do best in a home with a dog and a patient person that can help him become more confident.

Where to start…..AIDEN is sweet, loving, friendly, the kiss king, housebroken well behaved member of his foster family. He gets along with all other dogs and cats and loves kids and a warm lap to lay in.
AMELIA is sweet, loving, friendly, housebroken, enjoys the water and is pleasantly plump (she likes to finish Aiden’s meals), gets along great with cats and children and likes to let the bigger dogs know she’s the boss!!
Both of these wonderful dogs only need one dog bed and one lap, they like to share!! They love to fetch and keep themselves busy and active by play fighting and running with one another. They truly are meant to stay together. They sleep, clean, play, and do all the things that siblings should do together. They enjoy walks, but just want some love. Aiden and Ariel are tiny 8 week old siblings. They are just about 5 pounds each and as cute as can be. They were part of a larger litter but were particularly attached to each other. When the rest of the group was adopted and they were left together the foster mom saw how much they loved each other and would like them to go to a home together. This is a really snuggly little girl. Don't be fooled by the photos, she is only about 10 lbs, 1 year old and not quite as tall as a cat. Aileen (or Ali as we call her), is extremely affectionate and loves everybody she meets. In fact, she just climbs right into their laps and will stay there till they have to move. She is great with cats and other dogs, but prefers dogs her size. She moves very quickly and is very athletic too. She can jump a 4 foot fence easily, but most of all, she likes to hang out and snuggle, snuggle, snuggle.

AJ always looks a little sad, but then, at the age of
8, with no home of his own, who wouldn't be? A lab,
shepherd and ? mix, this droopy-eyed little guy needs
a place where he can live out his golden years. He is
an easygoing boy who likes to stay close, walk on the
leash, ride in the car and pounce on squeaky toys. He
doesn't quite recognize that he's almost a senior
citizen. Somewhere along the way he has been taught
nice manners: he never jumps up or gets on the

Alice was brought to the Mount Vernon shelter after enduring a painful dog attack. Why is it so often that the gentle ones suffer? Her leg wounds are now healing, and her spirits are high! Alice is sweet as can be. She is calm, friendly, and affectionate. She is young - just 7 months old - and has proven herself to be a near-perfect dog. The terrier in her clearly shows through. Alice is a happy and well-adjusted dog. Her submissive nature lends itself to a home with cats, dogs and kids.
Alice should be playing Frisbee, and making the other dogs jealous at the dog park with her head-turning good looks. My guess is her "puppy attitude" will not change even as she grows up into adulthood. Sweet-tempered, intelligent, docile and self-confident, she waits for your queues and wants to be close. This is a dog that everyone loves; there's just nothing not to enjoy about her. Oh - she's a snuggle-type that would certainly help to keep your bed warm at night - no cold feet with this one!

Allie is an adorable 1 year old Lab mix, she is a petite 28lbs. She is shy when first meeting new people but warms up fairly quickly. She enjoys going for walks and playing in the yard with other four legged friends. Once she warms up to her humans, she is quite content sitting on your lap for a good snuggle. She adores running around the backyard with her foster sisters and her foster boys. She is very people-oriented; she thrives on human interaction. She is living with a family that has two dogs, a cat, bird, guinea pig and three children, aged 7-13, so she can live anywhere! When she's done playing for the day, she likes nothing more than a good long cuddle, with whoever is available to shower her with love. Juliet (beige with darker back), approx 7 lbs and Romeo (beige with white paw ), are siblings both about 7 weeks old and approx 7 lbs. Both puppies adjusted well from there trip from WV. They love to play and chase each other when out in the yard. They are always happy to see you and greet you with many kisses. From the 1st night they have slept through the night cuddling up with each other. It took a day and a half but they now journey out on their leashes for walks and are very curious of their surroundings. They are being paper trained now and are pretty good during the night with hardly any accidents. It's hard not to fall in LOVE with these beautiful little puppies at first sight.

Amico is absolutely as sweet and affectionate as can be. Everyone who comes in contact with him loves him, and he bonded with his foster family members quickly. He loves to run but settles in well once he gets home (and even after just a few days, he knows which house is his foster home). Amico is timid at times, especially when he’s unfamiliar with people or surroundings, but he’s always sweet, even when cautious. He does great in the car, loves his 2 foster canine buddies, and doesn’t mind cats. Amico is really quiet, and comfortable in a crate over night, and sleeps quietly. He’s so playful, and loves to run. Great on a leash, and attentive to his human during walks. He likes to chew approved doggie bones, run, play with a ball and play with stuffed animals. He’ll even pick up a sock to play with, but he responds quickly to limits. Amico is mostly house trained but will have a short adjustment period. Amico will make a great family dog in any setting.

Andy is a 5-8 year-old Shiba Inu with high energy and a very nice personality. He loves to go for nice walks with his foster mom for over an hour. On his walks he just loves to “go, go, goâ€. In his foster home, he is independent, calm and curious. He is fun to train because he does a lovely sit and down. Unfortunately, Andy has a heart condition but does not require medication. As stated by his foster mom, he doesn’t seem to know he has a condition. He loves his walks and hanging out with his foster parents. He would be best in a home as the only dog and no cats.

He loves his walks outside, but is also content to spend time chilling on the couch or floor, playing with his toys or just spending time with his foster family, including his foster canine buddy. Although only 6 months old, Andy is making great strides on housebreaking, and sleeps quietly in his bed overnight, is respectful of property, and hasn’t chewed anything or gotten into anything he’s not supposed to. Meet Angel! This handsome Lab mix enjoys life and has an affable, silly personality. He is in a foster home with other dogs and engages them with his adorable play bow but readily takes their cues if they are not in the mood. He entertains himself with chew bones and squeaky toys, and gets the zoomies sometimes ... then jumps on the sofa to take a snooze. He is affectionate, gives gentle kisses, and loves to cuddle up next to you on the couch to watch TV. He sleeps peacefully all night and is housebroken too. He likes to go for car rides and on walks to explore. He is lean and solid, and can be a little strong on leash — he can't help himself when he sees a squirrel — but catches himself and then remembers to walk nicely. He is very responsive, knows "sit" and "paw," and just wants to please. Angel is a deep thinker...He looks out the window like a cat fascinated by passersby, squirrels, birds, or anything really. He bonds quickly with his people and makes himself right at home. He will make you giggle with his expressive ears and warm amber eyes; prancing gait; interesting resting positions; and the way he flings soft toys in the air to play. Angel was one of many dogs who were housed in too small an area and given no personal care. is about 12 weeks old and very calm and quiet. She comes from a severe abuse and neglect background. Fortunately young enough to come out of it just fine. A kind angel found her in a dirty, dark alley with her mom and 2 siblings. She was the only one to survive. Has had extensive vet checks and blood tests. Except for a slight tremor of the head when she gets nervous she is fine. A true sweetheart. Please someone give her the live she deserves.

Angelina (minus Brad, the kids & the lips)...Our Angelina, affectionately nicknamed Lia, is an energetic, athletic bundle of fun. She's highly motivated by food, so training has been a breeze - - she's crate trained and nearly house trained. Lia has the markings of a Doberman, with a short sleek coat and long legs. She's skinny, so her foster family is fattening her up. At around 6 months old and 20 lbs., we don't think she will get much bigger, maybe another 10-15 lbs? She loves to run and play chase with her foster family's young dog, but always checks back in with her humans. She's curious about cats, but gets along with the dog-savvy ones in her foster home -- one swat from a feisty feline was all it took! Because she is energetic and probably had to fend for herself, Lia would do best in a family with strong dog training skills. She'd be a wonderful dog for an active family, but not recommended for a family with young children, since she's still a bit mouthy. This loyal and loving girl desperately wants to find her forever family so that she can bond and find the love that she deserves.

Annabelle was a terrific mother to her nine active pups and is now ready for a home of her own. She is a real lady - sweet, gentle and about 5 years old and 50 pounds. A true rescue who was once very afraid of people, she needs a special home that will give her time and space to warm up and learn to trust someone. She is scared of strangers and loud noises, but loves playing with toys and the other dogs in her foster home. Although she is blind in one eye, it doesn't slow her down. Because of her shyness, she would do best in a quiet home with no children with a fenced-in yard. Even though her white on the face makes her look older, several vets have seen her and agree that she is a young dog. She also acts like a young dog and seems like she was very spoiled. She's also wonderful with children and happily rolls over for them to rub her belly. However in Manhattan, she is very fearful of any noise, car, or person while on the streets. She shakes in fear and darts in any direction without regard for her own safety. Last September, a noise startled her while on a walk
and she pulled the leash and ran down a busy street and was unfortunately, hit by a car. The impact resulted in her losing her eye but otherwise, remarkably, she had no other injuries and today shows no other physical scars from the event. She is a very loving girl who loves to get rubs and loves her food. She is often found lying on the couch or in her crate but from time to time, she can be found wrestling with our other dog or engaged in a heated game of tug of war.

Aphrodite is a ridiculously adorable 4 month old, 20 lb pup from Texas whose mom was saved from euthanasia and gave birth to a litter of 8 pups, only to lose 6 to intestinal worms. Aphrodite’s sister Athena who survived with her, has already been adopted and this amazing girl is still looking for her forever home. She is sweet and very playful, she loves being with the kids in her foster house (4 kids ranging from 6-12 years old), and 3 other dogs. She loves to be carried and cuddled and doesn’t nip. She plays non-stop with the other foster puppy in the house and gets along with the other 2 dogs as well but then looks for a lap to nap on but also happily naps in her crate too. She’s working on her house training and happily sleeps in her crate all night. Aphrodite does have a congenital heart condition. She will need to be reassessed when she is older to better understand how this condition will impact her health. This sweet girl will make the perfect addition to any family!

April is the most adorable, happy and friendly foster pup her temporary family has ever had. She still thinks anything on the floor is a plaything entertaining all who watch her chase, tumble and investigate her treasures. She is energetic when she is playing with her furry foster siblings and calm when sitting on the laps of her two legged family members. She loves going every where with the family whether walking on a leash around the neighborhood or traveling in a car. April especially loves the dog park where she can gracefully run through the grass at top speed.. She is great on the trails and never leaves the "pack". This energy and grace are especially wonderful since April has a cyst on her spine which makes her a little unstable at times. The neurologist at the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers has tested and examined her and states that April will live a long, healthy and playful life. April is about 11 months old, 9 pounds, has been spayed and is up to date on all of her vaccinations. Because of her size she would do best in a home without small children.

Ashley is a love! She is a gorgeous collie/shepheard mix, is about 2 years old, 45 pounds and has the most beautiful, expressive eyes! Ashley is a true cuddle bunny who wants nothing more than to spend time with you. She follows her foster family around the house and if work needs to be done, finds a spot at her foster mom’s feet and snoozes while she works. She is completely housebroken and sleeps through the night, never budging until you are up and about. While her foster family is at work, she finds a soft place to snooze or waits patiently at the window for their return. Ashley would love an active family to take her on long walks (she is working on her leash walking and although she still pulls a bit, she is getting better every day) A fenced in back yard would also be perfect for playing fetch, her favorite game! Asia is an adorable female 8 week old Labrador Retriever puppy and around 5 lbs. She is a very sweet and playful puppy, who likes lots of attention. She is the sister to Ari and Athena. She is the smaller of the two, but definitely can hold her own when playing with her siblings. Aspen is a very sweet and friendly dog with the most gorgeous blue eyes. She loves being with people and is extremely gentle with kids. She gets along well with other dogs, sharing toys and food, and would enjoy another dog to play with - definitely in a fenced yard. When she's not playing chase games in the back yard she is content to snuggle on the couch and is generally calm in the house. She rides well in the car, enjoys walks and she is working on her leash skills. Aspen
Who is the fairest of them all? Why, Aspen, of course! From her light coloring, to her pale green eyes, to her little pink nose, to her softer-than-silk fur, Apen is a little princess in the "ruff." She has a delightful personality and likes to play and take walks. At the end of the day, Aspen is happy to sit next to you on the sofa for a movie and a cuddle. If kept on a schedule, she will do her "business" outside. In her foster home, Aspen sleeps through the night in a crate and provides a proper and enthusiastic greeting in the morning. Because she is small-boned, we will only consider homes with older (10+) children who will know to be gentle with her. We think she is a chihuahua mixed with something with a bit more leg (possibly Gisele Bundchen but more likely an Italian Greyhound or other type of hound). At 4-5 months, Aspen is about 12 lbs so we don't anticipate her being very large at maturity.

Bartok looks like a mini German Shepherd mix. He is 2 years old and weighs about 28 lbs. Bartok is a wonderful dog who loves to get belly rubs and lay next to his foster mom on the couch. is a lively and outgoing girl. She is only 22 lbs, but could gain a few. She is about 1 year old and very playful. She looks just like a "Kooiker dog", a breed of dog from Holland that is not very well known in the US. She also has some of their traits. As soon as you take her out, her nose hits the ground and she gets going. She will bark at cats and try to chase them too. She has a lot of hunting instinct. Her photos don't do her justice, she is much cuter. She also loves to snuggle. Aubrey's hair should grow back beautifully, we had to cut a lot off since she was very matted. She will have long feathers on her ears again once it is grown back.

3 adorable Australian Shepherd mix puppies, about 15 lbs and 12-14 weeks old. They are all very sweet, playful, responsive and snuggly -- they just want to be with you. Audrey (F) is the blonde pup; she is a little more demure than her brothers. Curtis (M) is just as big as his brother Jack (M), but not as brave, especially when he learned how to climb stairs. He just stood at the top of the stairs and cried when his buddies were at the bottom.

Austin is a 14 week old, approximately 18 lb puppy rescued from Texas when he was found with his littermates but without a mom in sight. He is now in a home with his brother Dallas, 3 other dogs and 4 kids and gets along with everyone! Austin is a super sweet, active puppy who is a little more adventurous than his brother. He is learning his potty training and when kept on a very tight schedule has made great progress. He happily sleeps in his crate/playpen area with Dallas all night and will go on the wee-wee pad if he needs to. He loves to be outside running around or inside digging in his toy bin and is slowly learning to walk on a leash. In the car he is very calm and usually will stay in one area trying to peer out the window or is happy in someones lap. He also loves to be picked up and carried but will squirm out of your arms when he is ready to play with all his furry siblings! For a puppy Austin is docile and will cuddle up to sleep after every playtime. You need to see him in person to appreciate how cute he really is!

Austin is a happy, healthy, spirited 3 year old Golden Doodle. He has been professionally trained, and among other things, he knows sit, stay, down, look, and leave it. He is very treat motivated, and likes to be rewarded frequently. He is crate trained and loves his crate. Austin will sleep in his crate quietly over night, and will happily go to his crate when visitors or workman are in the house. He has not been walked on a leash frequently and is used to running and playing in his fenced in backyard, which he loves...running around and playing outside with his 5 year old Cavapoo sister He has good manners and will not beg at the table, but will lay on the floor next to the table. He gets very excited when he sees another dog on a walk, since he is used to exercising in the fenced in yard...therefore he will do best joining a family with a fenced in yard. His favorite game is fetch with a tennis ball. Although he hasn’t had experience with children, Austin is a very gentle, sweet, loving, and affectionate dog and would probably be fine with children. He loves activity and play, but will also spend the day laying calmly at your feet napping. His best home will be one where there is an adult at home for most or part of the day, as he isn’t used to being left alone for a whole day. He would also love to have a canine playmate in the house to play with. Austin takes daily over the counter (Amazon) allergy meds to prevent ear infections. When she runs she pounces like a kangaroo. She loves her chew toys and smothering her foster family with kisses.
